Innovating together for green growth

Five players from potato cultivation (Koninklijke Maatschappij de Wilhelminapolder, NoviFarm, Thes Agro, Franzen Landbouw and Van den Borne Potatoes) are joining forces to innovate together for green, sustainable growth.

The current agricultural companies are often much larger than before, but the attention we pay to our crop is no less. Precision farming offers the opportunity to continue to work as professionally as our grandparents. Thanks to new techniques, we can give every meter of our plot what it needs, and we don't waste resources, water and manure. By innovating together we can share our experiences. Moreover, in this way we show customers and consumers that we want and can move forward.

Sustainability starts with good soil management. Without appropriate measures, the soil quickly becomes exhausted. Part of the project is therefore a cultivation test with different types of fertilization. The experience of Loonwerkgps with precision agriculture and the experience of Frank Franzen with compost come in handy! All test fields are scanned and sampled before and after the test. As a result, everyone's starting position is clear and we can clearly demonstrate the effect of each fertilization strategy on different types of soil.

In addition to the cultivation test, we also explore which steps we can take further, in collaboration with chain partners. We look at healthy soil, an optimal nutrient cycle, no leaching of resources from the yard and short chains between producer and consumer. The smart farmer of the future is also not forgotten. We like to involve interns in the cultivation test. In this way, new knowledge is not only acquired but also transferred directly.
