Sustainable energy

Solar panels
In 2019, van den Borne invested in the construction of solar panels on three storage sheds. The total installation has a capacity of 500 kWh, making the company self-sufficient in power consumption. In the winter months, the potatoes in the storage must be ventilated, the fans being powered by solar energy. In addition to the application of solar energy in storage, the generated power is used during the sprinkling process. Van den Borne has invested for the future with the purchase of electric sprinkler pumps. Around the main location in Reusel is 40 hectares of land that can be irrigated entirely electrically using solar energy. There are several groundwater wells within 40 hectares, each well being equipped with an electric pump. Each pump is powered by a cable network from the main location with solar panels.

Wind farm
In 2017, van den Borne took the initiative to realize a wind farm. To realize the wind farm, an association has been established with the aim of improving the image and making Reusel-south more sustainable. The High Tech Agro Campus (VHTAC) Association consists of 30 farmers, citizens and local residents who want to work together on this ambition. The VHTAC has set up a new BV for the wind farm with the name Agro Wind. On March 3, 2020, the environmental permit was granted for the installation of 11 wind turbines of together 60 megawatts. The ambition is to have the wind farm operational by 2023. We will not only make our own company climate neutral, but also all companies in Reusel South.
