Internship experiences Cyrill Lemans

Name: Cyrill Lemans
Residence: Urmond
Internship period: April-May 2015
Internship type: Orientation internship
School: HAS Hogeschool ’s-Hertogenbosch

For my study garden and arable farming, the assignment was to do an orientation internship in the last period of the first year. The period consisted of two four-week internships at two different companies. The first period I did an internship at Van de Borne Potatoes and the second period at Lavrijsen strawberries. My time at Van den Borne was in the middle of the seed season, my job was mainly to take care of the supply of new seed potatoes from the company to the plot. In the beginning it took some getting used to the Fendt tractors, but after a few days this was no longer a problem. I was also allowed to plant myself, because of all the modern techniques that Jacob uses, this has become a little easier than before without this technique.

What you will certainly learn at Van den Borne is how important it is to collect all data about your crop, develop it and make maximum use of it. This makes it possible to use all raw materials and resources much more efficiently. I was able to scan different plots myself with the soil scanner and here you can clearly see the differences in the soil, different data can be obtained from these maps. Data that helps achieve maximum yields with minimal costs.

I myself have learned a lot here and this internship is definitely recommended if you want to learn more about the optimal use of precision agriculture with a capital P.
I would like to thank Jacob, Jan and all employees for the beautiful and especially educational time.
